Interview with Bettina Zapp

Where are you from and where is your Art practice based currently?

I am from Munich/Bavaria/Germany.

Do you have a formal Art Education or are you Self Taught?

I went to the Academy of Arts.

Where do you look for inspiration? What themes do you find more interesting?

My inspiration  comes from people and all that surrounds me. I’m inspired by human interaction, translated in color. Nature itself and human nature and emotions.

Have any Great Women Abstract Artists influenced your work? Which current Artists do you admire?

Joan Mitchel was one of the first female that inspired me. I love Daisy Paris, Tracy Emin and Monique Van Genderen and a lot more great female artists.

Do you identify most with a specific Art Abstract genre?

My genre is color painting, I work with Pigments, Acrylics and Oil sticks. It’s all about communication, conversations of colors and dialogues.

Can you tell us about your process?

I don't have anything special in mind when I start, first color and then the second one and there is a space. Each color and shape reacts with the others, they always have a relationship. They communicate. The same happens with lines, they find a direction, COME together, separate and dance.

Where can we see your work?

You can see my work on my Website www.bettinazapp.de , on Instagram @bettinaza and Facebook,

My next solo Show starts in two days, on 7th of December in Munich, It’s called

“Dialogues under the moon”

What advice would you give to other Abstract Women Artists entering the Art World?

My advice is: believe in yourself and keep going. When you have a bad moment, go on - the works you really fight with will be your best ones.
